FORTHCOMING SAS WINNERS PRESIDENTIAL SUMMIT TO BE HELD IN KAMPALA, UGANDA 18TH OCTOBER 2007

The presidential summit for SAS Winners Society Children’s forum will be held in Kampala, on the 18th October 2007, to discuss children’s participation in community Health and the role they can play in HIV Eradication.

 

1 Brief introduction

 

The Winners society is a forum in primary schools that brings children together to discuss their personal health, their family and community health.

Their goal is to translate what is learned in class and in groups, into useful tools for the transformation of their wellbeing, their families and society.

 

Each primary school where mentorship operates has a winners Society group which,

  • Elects officials headed by a president,
  • General Secretary,
  • Cabinet members
  • They hold office for one year,
  • The presidents elect the national president of the society.
  • The national presidency is for  two years  term

 

2 The Importance of the summit

 

The SAS Winners Society Presidential Summit this year is an important event because

·         It will be the first elections for the society’s president ever.

·         The first presidential summit for children in Uganda

·         It gives an opportunity to children to participate in national programs for children

·         It is an opportunity for the children’s voice to be heard out side the home and school confines

·         It will increase children’s level of assertiveness, confidence and leadership

·         It offers children desired exposure to national issues

·         It creates an opportunity for the children to interact with their fellow children and adults at a higher level

·         It will be a source of inspiration and will stimulate leadership commitment to the society

·         It will set a positive example and inspire zeal to get involved in collective and community responsibilities

·         It will add extra value to the winners Society groups and community health initiatives outside the school

·         It will build a strong internal motivation to recruit others into the society

·         It will leave behind a long lasting impact on the children’s mind as an incentive to leadership aspiration.

 

3 The importance of the summit to SAS and its partners

 

SAS Foundation as the promoter and organizer will achieve the following objectives:

 

1.    The  promotion of activities of SAS foundation as an organization

 

  1. The  enhancement of partnership for purposes of attracting funding and moral support
  2. It will make a public statement concerning our organizations’ initiatives and the impact they make in the community where we operate

 

  1. It will make room for IBES (Immunization By Education Strategy) publicity so as to consolidate it and prevent plagiarism.

 

  1. An appeal to the political, financial partners and stakeholders in supporting our activities.

 

  1. An increased awareness of mentorship program in Uganda and abroad

 

  1. Create impact in children’s  participation in mentorship programs

 

  1. Promoting good will by the line ministry, school administration, parents and teachers

 

  1. Gaining recognition by the national leadership and appreciation of our activities

 

  1. Gaining a wider spectrum of partners and well wishers for an effective service

 

  1. Creating a wider opportunity for accessing funding and other services for the organization
  2. Taking leadership in the promotion of children’s efforts and participation in the fight against HIV.
  3. Improving access to donor communities and the government agencies

 

  1. Building a good organizational image in championing Human cause

 

4 The theme of the Summit:

 

“My responsibility for personal, family and community health”

 

1 The Summit activities:

  • Carry out Elections for the president of winners society
  • Presentations of various schools
  • Speeches

 

2 Activities before the summit:

 

  • Mobilization and sensitization of other schools and  institutions
  • Sensitization of the surrounding communities
  • Advocacy of the winners society
  • Promotion of the SAS products
  • Mobilization of resources for the summit
  • Sensitization of the business and donor communities.
  • Radio programs on HIV eradication IBES

5 Committees and partners

 

The executive committee for the presidential summit

 

The Board of Trustees chair person shall chair the Executive committee with an alternate chair person who shall be the Vice Chair person of the Board.

 

Two members from SAS clinic

Two members from Schools

Three members from SAS Foundation

One member from Nakawa Division

Two members from the mentors

 

6 The sub committees.

 

The executive committee shall select among their members heads of sub committees:

  • Finance and fundraising committee
  • Publicity and hospitality committee
  • Protocol and Security committee
  • Mobilization and Transport committee
  • Administration committee:

a.     Liaison and facilitation person

b.    The Master of ceremony

c.     The chairman of the session

d.    Returning officer

 

1. Various groups shall be co-opted to different sub committees as the executive committee shall decide.

 

2. The executive committee shall have discretion to endorse or review the working document.

 

3. Various businesses and organizations shall be approached to sponsor the event and to have exclusive advertising rights during the summit.

 

4. The children’s organization wishing to have a desk for their organization shall pay a contribution which shall be decided by the committee.

 

7 The working budget

 

The committee shall draw a budget to run the program and activities either in the first meeting or the next to expedite the program for October 18th 2007.

 

Each sub committee shall identify its activities and priorities for funding. The finance committee shall find ways of raising funds from the corporate bodies through its fundraising committee.
